The organisation was founded in and held responsibility for the various aquatic disciplines until it was dissolved in January following a series of sexual abuse scandals. Prior to this meeting the two associations had been founded and developed in tandem since when the British Amateur Swimming Association had suggested that the number of clubs in Ireland now warranted an independent association. Swim England is the brand name for the Amateur Swimming Association , the first sport governing body of swimming to be established in the world and today remains the English national governing body for swimming, diving , water polo , open water swimming , and synchronised swimming. The association was established in , with headquarters at Harold Fern House in Loughborough. It was registered as a company on 18 May The ASA underwent a rebranding exercise in including a new logo and name of the asa. After negative reaction the logo was retained but the organisation returned to using The ASA in text form.
